The Jewish Basketball Hall of Fame is the most complete action history of the legendary Jewish basketball heroes of the twentieth century. Over 30 players brought to the screen in all their glory, together for the first time.
The film is narrated by Steve Malzberg and features the voices of Marty Glickman and Mel Allen and commentary by Chuck Hearn and Fred Schaus.
Director Steven Bass, a noted sports archivist and expert in the history of televised sports, located marvelous film footage in The Jewish Basketball Hall of Fame languishing in archives, basements and attics across the United States. Digitally enhanced, this compilation of film materials gives viewers the opportunity to experience these legendary players at the height of their game.
"People are not aware of what a big contribution Jews have made to sports," explains Izzi Lifschutz, one of the film’s producer and a one-time high scorer for the Hebrew University basketball team. "That's why The Jewish Basketball Hall of Fame DVD is full of the history of these amazing athletes."

Steve Malzberg is the host of The Steve Malzberg Show on the WOR Radio Network, a regular panelist on CNN’s Paula Zahn Now and a frequent guest on Fox News Channel, Court TV, and MSNBC.
Featured Voice:
Marty Glickman “the voice of basketball” began his career as a member of the U.S. Olympic team at the 1936 Olympics in Nazi Germany. Glickman, the first TV announcer for the National Basketball Association, was the voice of the Giants football team, the Knicks, and the New York Jets, each for over 20 years.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
“Watching this DVD is just great fun…Narration by Marty Glickman, the legendary voice of 1950s-60s New York Sports, adds texture and authority…Aficionados of old-style basketball will relish scenes that show players using give-and-go moves, inside cuts, weaves, under-hand shots and back-door plays…Bottom line: All fans of sports and American Jewish history [will] enjoy this meritorious work.”
“Fascinating DVD…For example…Irwin Dambrot, Al Roth, Ed Roman and Norm Mager…were part of an interracial team which faced prejudice and racism wherever it played. Similarly, I was struck by the sign of the seeming acclaim that the Jew from New York Lenny Rosenbluth garnered as an all-American in the Bible Belt...[and the segment on] the long tradition of tolerance toward Jews among Catholic educators when the doors to many WASP schools were closed…Finally fans of cagers who played for ‘American Jewry’s team,’ Yeshiva University will be absolutely thrilled with the 45-second clip of ‘Red’ Blumenreich and Irv Bader leading their club against the Israeli national Team in Madison Square Garden.”
- Jeffrey S. Gurock, professor of Jewish history at Yeshiva University & author of Judaism’s Encounter with American Sports.

"A fantastic collection of rare footage and in-depth history of over 30 legendary Jewish Basketball players. Covering the three decades from the 1950's through the 70's, you get to experience some greats from college and NBA fame…There is even a nice piece on Nancy Lieberman who played for 3 professional leagues.
- Eliezer Cohen, Jewish Press
“I have just had the pleasure of viewing The Jewish Basketball Hall of Fame. It is very impressive to see so much rescued and rediscovered archival footage of these players, from some of the best-known, all-time greats to talented but obscure Division II players in the 1950s and 1960s. One of the great treats of the DVD is getting to hear the great Marty Glickman calling the action on the court -- he's the patriarch of basketball play-by-play announcing.”
- Michael Feldberg, Ph.D, Director of Research, American Jewish Historical Society
